This is a graduate (or senior) level course on the fundamentals of mobile communications. Topics include cellular concept, channel modeling, digital communications over fading channels, multiple access communications, and wireless networking. The pre-requisite is any typical undergraduate digital communication course. There are no required textbooks, however you are encouraged to have atleast one of the new books on this topic, e.g., Rappaport, Stuber, Goodman, or Pahlavan's. There will be a great emphasis on team term projects. There will be homework assignments due every two weeks on Thursdays. Class participation is very important and it constitutes 20% of the grade. The project is worth 50% and the homework is worth 30% of the total grad. Homework assignments are due by 5.00 p.m. on their due dates. You can be one day (24 hours) late on one HW set without any penalties. Otherwise there is a 50% penalty on late HW assignments. Each team must turn in one term project report before the last day of examinations. The oral presentations on the projects must be in a tag team style. The date for the presentations will be announced later.
Honor code: You are encouraged to work with other students in Elec 534 on homework problems. You should not look at completed work of other students, old homework solutions, and old exams and their solutions.
