Analysis

The picture of the system we are going to build should look familiar. It is simply a realization of the fundamental model of communication that we saw in the first week of class:

Since we will be using a wireless channel, we know from Section 6.4 of the textbook that we will have to modulate our baseband speech signal to a higher frequency. Section 6.11 tells us how to do this using amplitude modulation (AM):
$\displaystyle x(t)=A_c(1+m(t))cos(2\pi f_ct)$
where $f_c$ is the carrier frequency and $A_c$ is the carrier amplitude. It also tells us the best way to demodulate the signal at the other end of the channel, the AM coherent receiver:
