ELEC 242 Lab
Laboratory 1
Transducers I
The heart of our mechanical television system is the scanning disk.
The transmitter (camera) disk must rotate at an accurately controlled
speed and the receiver disk must be
kept rotating
in phase with the transmitter.
This means we will need an accurately controllable means of spinning
the disk.
In our system we will use a small permanent magnet (PM) DC motor.
The other critical components are a light sensor for the camera
and a modulatable light source for the receiver.
For these we will use a photodiode and a light emitting diode (LED)
respectively.
To utilize these components effectively, we must first characterize
them.
In this Lab we will look at the I-V characteristics of the LED
and the voltage vs. speed characteristics of the DC motor.
