No matter how well it may perform, no high-tech product will do well in the marketplace without a good user interface. Asking users of your elevator to enter enter cryptic voltages in order to get to their desired floor will not generate many satisfied customers.
When entering an established market, it is often wise to emulate the external appearance of the existing product. So the best way to package our elevator is probably to provide it with old-fashoned buttons.
